Getting started on Quizlet's iOS app

Last Updated: Nov 18, 2018 04:00PM PST

Quizlet’s iOS app is free to download. Using the app is a great way to create and study sets on the go! To download the Quizlet iOS app, open visit the App Store on your iOS mobile device and search for Quizlet.

Read on to learn how Quizlet’s iOS app works and get answers to FAQs!

Finding sets to study

Students and teachers on Quizlet are creating new study sets all the time. This means there’s a good chance you'll be able to find a study set on the topic you’re studying by searching for sets that have already been created.

To search for study sets, tap the magnifying glass at the bottom of the app.

Type the topic that you’re looking to study -- the more specific, the better. For example, you’ll get more relevant results if you search for Diagram of the human heart than Anatomy.

If you find a set you would like to study, but it doesn’t contain all of the terms and definitions you need, you can make a copy of someone else's set, edit it, and save it to your account.

Creating and editing study sets on the Quizlet iOS app

To create a study set on the iOS app, tap the Create icon at the bottom of the screen. Then, tap Create study set.

Enter a set title. Then, enter a term and definition.

Quizlet Plus and Quizlet Teacher subscribers will also see an option to create sets by scanning a document.

Once you have two terms and definitions and have selected a language for your set, you can save it by pressing Done.

The app syncs with the Quizlet website, so you will be able to review your study sets anywhere you have access to the internet (offline studying available for Quizlet Plus and Quizlet Teacher subscribers.)

Studying on iOS devices

To help you study on the go, Flashcards, Learn, Write, Match and Test modes are available on the Quizlet iOS app. Spell, Gravity, and Quizlet Live are not currently supported on the app, but you can use your device’s mobile browser to study with Spell and join games of Quizlet Live.

To get started with a study session, choose a study mode at the top of the set page by tapping on the icon.

Flashcards

You can use Flashcards mode to review terms and definitions or questions and answers on the Quizlet website and mobile apps, just as you would paper flashcards.

Learn

Learn mode takes the guesswork out of studying by creating a personalized study plan based on your familiarity with a study set so you can master everything you need to know.

When studying with Learn, Quizlet will prompt you with different types of questions flashcards, multiple choice and written. As you answer questions correctly, you'll start to see harder question types (written, flashcards) more often than easier question types (multiple choice).

Write

Write will prompt you with a question (either a term or definition) and you type the answer. Similar to written questions in Learn mode, Write grades your answers and shows you questions you answered incorrectly throughout a study session to make sure you master your material.

Match

Match is an interactive learning game where you race against the clock to match your terms and definitions as quickly as possible.

Test

See how you might perform on an actual test or quiz by taking this auto-generated practice test. You can customize your test questions to match the type of questions you’ll see on test day.

Creating and managing classes on the Quizlet iOS app

You can create a class by selecting the Create icon at the bottom of your screen, and then tapping Create class. Enter a class title and description (optional) and then select Save.

To add class members, select a class from your Home feed. Tap Members and open the Options menu. From the Options menu, select Invite members. In order to join a class on Quizlet, you need to have an account.

The Options menu will also let you select which study sets you want to include in your class by selecting Add sets.

Changing account settings on iOS

If you would like to change your username, password, profile picture or other account settings on the app, you can make those changes by tapping the Account icon at the bottom of the screen.
