Creating a study set on the Quizlet iOS app

Last Updated: Oct 15, 2018 03:08PM PDT

Creating your own study set on Quizlet allows you to focus on exactly what you want to learn and it’s easy to do from anywhere using your iOS device!

Quizlet Plus users will also see an option to create sets by scanning a document. Learn how to do that by reading Creating a set with Scan Document on iphone.

Creating a study set on iOS

Tap Create at the bottom of your screen.

Then, tap Create study set.

Enter a set title. If you’d like to add an optional description with more information about your set, tap + Description.

Entering terms and definitions

Enter a term and definition. For most languages, Quizlet will automatically detect the language based on the word or phrase you’ve typed. If that doesn’t happen, or Quizlet doesn’t detect the correct language, tap Select language (or the name of the language we’ve detected) to choose the correct option.

You won’t be able to save your set until you’ve added at least two terms and definitions and selected a language for both.

Adding and removing terms and definitions

To add terms and definitions, tap the plus icon to insert a new card. To add a card directly below another in the middle of your set, rather than at the bottom, tap into that card and then tap Plus.

To delete a card, swipe left on that card and tap the trash can icon.

Auto-suggest

When you start typing a term, Quizlet will show you popular terms added by other users that match the letters you've typed. To choose an auto-suggested term, select the one you want from the list below the term text box.

Once you've chosen a term or typed one in, Quizlet will show you the most popular definitions other users have entered for that term. To choose an auto-suggested definition, select it from the list below the definition text box.

To disable auto-suggest, tap the suggestions icon. The icon is yellow when auto-suggest is enabled, and grey when auto-suggest is disabled.

Saving your set

When you’re done adding terms and definitions, tap Done to save and publish your set.

You’ll then be able to study your new set on the Quizlet app and website and others will be able to find it if they search for your username and the set is public.

Please note that unpublished draft sets (which are visible only to you at the top of your Home feed) will not sync across different devices. Drafts are stored on your device until they’re saved. Once you save your set, you’ll be able to access it from the app on another device or the Quizlet website.

Once you've published your set, you can edit it by going to the Set page and selecting the More menu then tapping Edit set

Draft sets

While you’re working on a new study set on the iOS app, Quizlet will periodically save your work as a draft. Drafts are only stored on your device until you save them. Once you save your set, you’ll be able to access it on any device as long as you’re signed in to your account.

Please note that unpublished draft sets (which are only visible to you on your device’s Home feed) will not sync with the Quizlet website or other devices until they are saved.

FAQs

How do I add images to my sets?

Quizlet users with Quizlet Plus or Quizlet Teacher subscriptions can add images on the app from their device’s library by tapping the image icon in the bottom right corner of the Create Set screen. Users with free accounts can only add images from the Quizlet website, as we don’t currently support our free image gallery on our mobile apps. To learn more about adding images from the website, go here.

Can I create diagram sets on the iOS app?

It’s not currently possible to create diagram sets on the Quizlet iOS and Android apps. If you create diagram sets on the Quizlet website, you can study them on both the apps and website!

Can I format text on the app?

Yes you can bold text by putting it between asterisks *like this.* If you choose Math/Symbols or Chemistry as your term or definition language, text between asterisks won’t be bolded as asterisks are used in different contexts when studying those subjects. Currently, we don’t offer other text formatting options, but are planning to add more in the future.

Can I make some text in my set optional?

Yes! Text enclosed in parentheses (like this) won’t be read by our text to speech audio and isn’t required as part of answer for it to be marked right when studying. Since text in parentheses is optional, putting hints or example sentences in parentheses is a great way to add context to your terms and definitions.
